Updating yesterday's post, Terry Teachout appeared for his second day of jury duty in Manhattan. Once again, he wasn't called--
For the second day in a row, no judge anywhere in the courthouse called for a fresh panel of jurors. We were sent to lunch 45 minutes ahead of schedule, and I ran for the elevators and slid across the street to a very good Vietnamese restaurant, where I lunched with a friend who works at WNYC, whose studios are a few blocks south of the courthouse.
After lunch, Terry and his fellow jurors were inexplicably sent home.
Trial lawyers out of control? Maybe so, but if that's true, they apparently have no use for jurors in Manhattan.
