This Week: The Extra-Special Indiana Edition, Featuring the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. (Why IUI? First, because I received a nice e-mail from a student there, who informed me of some blogs I didn't know about. Second, why not?)
Which IUI Blog Caught My Attention First? Answer: it was Deb, Hatched. I was immediately pulled into Deb's blog and her story of her battle with breast cancer as a 2L. The story, which is on Deb's website, continues here. It ends with these words: "Maybe by the time I have a daughter, and she grows to be a woman, breast cancer will be eliminated, and none of us will have to worry about it. At least we can hope."
IUI 2L Sent to Afghanistan Phil of Demurrer just started his blog, but it includes an interesting and timely post about a fellow IUI law student, a member of the Army National Guard, who was "selected for the Afghanistan mission and had to report after his last final exam." Wow.
Two to an Office That's how they're packing in the summer associates at the firm where Kelly of Just Playin' is working this summer (5/18). She writes, "In the morning we were sitting around with the summer program attorneys and they were trying to describe what the experience would be like for us. Someone said, 'It's like a summer long rush.' Thrilling endorsement." (Kelly also appeared in Weekly Law School Roundup #6.)
Joshua Claybourn Supports the SBC Strikers On Joshua's blog, he comments that the SBC customer service department has never been better, even though it's being staffed by "scabs." In other blogging news, Joshua recently deleted 300 "spam comments." I wonder if any of the comment spam came from SBC, as may have happened to me.
Who's Guarding the Flanks of the Bell Curve? It's Brian of Confessions of an Exhausted Mind, who wrote in a post called "Grades": "Oh hell I should just start drinking now. Some people are on top of the bell curve. Others, like me, guard the flanks. I'm going to pray that top 50% is overrated anyway." A self-deprecating blogger: they're rarely encountered in the wilds of the blogosphere, but are always very thrilling to spot.
Joey's Engaged to Kia You'll find details on Joey's blog, simple.blue.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers Are Most Like What Insect? In her post "Cicadapalooza," Heidi of Waiting for the Punchline asks, "Exactly what purpose do these insects serve?" She says the cicadas "keep latching on to the walls and trees and they're just disgusting to look at." (And, some say, good to eat!)
Take Pride in Your Hide That's what Kelly of Metaphors of a Magnifico says about her new tattoo. What does the tattoo look like, exactly? Kelly says, "[Y]’all will just have to find out on your own. Let’s just say it is an accurate representation of my metamorphosis FROM schoolteacher to lawyer." Hmmm. Is it a really big book? Or maybe a rotten apple? I'm stumped.
In Other News from IUI Kevin of The Sleepy Sage heads to France; Lawren of Martinis, Persistence and A Smile writes about the "best movie death" of all time (May 21); Grant of Grant in Europe is also heading overseas, and is going to learn some more law in Strasbourg; and Ryan of Stuperman's Kryptonite posts about a lawyer who was recently appointed to represent a dog.
More Information About Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis You'll find it on Sapere aude, a weblog "written and managed" by the students at the IUI law school. It contains a lot of links, and posts by Joshua Claybourn, Brian Deiwert, Lawren Mills, and Kelly Scanlan. It's also where I found the links to the weblogs in this post.
This Week’s Extreme Wit at the Law Schools Award™ . . . is taking some time off for the new baby (see previous post), and will return next week.
