This Week: The 1L-Only Edition, In Which Your Editor Reads Weblogs Written by 1Ls to Find Out What They're Doing and How They're Holding Up
Some Are Having Trouble Sleeping "I've been having trouble sleeping lately. I'm not quite sure why. I haven't been stressed out; the professors haven't ramped up the pace yet so I've had plenty of time to relax and not worry about school. But for whatever reason I just cannot fall asleep when my head hits the pillow." (Falconred)
Others Can't Stay Awake "Today there was supposed to be a social thing for my section, and I still had vague thoughts of attending, but when I went home, I sat down on the bed with a book, then woke up about 3 hours later. During the interval, my roommate apparently trucked in an entire aisle from Costco and stashed it about our minimalist, Soviet-bloc style, pre-fab kitchen. I slept through it all." (Scoplaw)
Some Are Getting Sick "Yesterday I made it to Property. I did not make it to Contracts or Legal Writing. I had to go home and become one with my snotty pillow. It was tough to make the decision to leave, but frankly, I just didn't have it in me. My head was pounding, my legs were wobbly and I felt like hell. Today after hours and hours of sleep, I feel much better." (Becoming a Jackal)
Others Have Been Forced to Multitask "Achieved a new feat...and arrived at a new low today...reading for Contracts during Crim Law. I am a multitasking goddess." (Coyote Fun)
Some Are Dropping Out "I already know of 4 people in my section who've dropped out. I remember meeting each of them individually during orientation. Each of them were so confident and believed they were above everyone else and had advantages that others didn't. Losers. . . . The cocky sons of bitches couldn't even last half a semester. Good riddance." (Insomniac)
[Below the Fold: Watching Too Much TV, Playing Too Many Video Games, Fighting the Inner Censor, and Much More.]
Some Sit Idly By As the World Is Turned Upside Down "Ahh, Yale Law School, where the professor stands at the front of the class while the students Socratically pepper him with tough hypothetical questions to elucidate his legal thinking." (Will Baude)
Others Are Watching Way Too Much TV "I watch too much West Wing.
I don’t know if I talk about that a lot here on the blog, but it’s true. I watched three hours of it today. I probably should have been reading, as originally planned. I’m watching it as I type. Maybe another hour before bed." (Neo Tokyo Times)
Some Are Playing Too Many Video Games "Well, it seems that solitaire and free cell are out in full force in our classroom. It started last week with a couple people, but now there are a number of screens in front and around me playing through all of class. Most are still trying to pay a little attention, but when the professor(s) goes off the games speed up." (Tex Lex)
Others Are Riffing on Natalie Goldberg's "Inner Censor" "Not that my blog is particularly creative, but still . . . I’m an editor. Been that way since high school. While I enjoy the creative art, I especially love the tweaking of lines, the molding of sentences from a raw idea to something calculated and refined." (inquire within)
Some Are Helping Campaign for SBA "I decided to stay away from the SBA meeting this week that was required for all students interested in running for 1L representative. I knew I'd get sucked in, so I stayed away. Well, I couldn't keep from getting sucked into helping a few of my classmates with their elections. It's really the best of all worlds!" (Matt Schuh)
Others Are Complaining About 2Ls and 3Ls "Why can the 2/3L’s who use this classroom before us clean up after themselves? Every time we come into this classroom there is unidentifiable liquids spilled on the desks in various places. I may not be the cleanest person around, but it is a whole new level to spill your morning drink all over the desk and just leave it there. Jerks." (Prestige Whore)
Some Are Keeping Their Eye on Politics "I don't want to post on politics too much. It's kind of boring, when everyone else is talking about it. But I thought I'd throw this up here, because it was interesting. Kerry stops spending in Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri." (Michael Scaljon)

Talk about a man of courage! Please don't do this again to yourself any time soon -- and, definitely, not for our sakes.
p.s. to Insomniac: You sound like a very angry young person. I hope your weblog lets you get all this rage out of your system, before you're unleashed on clients and colleagues. A little introspection might help, too: we tend to dislike the traits in others that we fear or loathe in ourselves. (the theory works for me) I can't wait until you feel comfortable enough with life and yourself to start weblogging under your own name. (yes, I do have a thing about anonymous webloggers -- especially the angry, vulgar, self-righteous ones)
