I warned of more posts about the Madison County Record, which the Washington Post recently revealed to be owned by the tort reformers of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Here's a perspective on the scandal from an editorial in Friday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch--
The Madison County Record has chosen to obscure the fact that it is owned by a giant national business lobbying group. In the process, it's torn its credibility to shreds.
The Post-Dispatch also did a news story a few days before the editorial: "New newspaper is partly owned by U.S. Chamber of Commerce," by Paul Hampel. I hope its coverage continues until the Record discloses on its front page that it's nothing but a paid advertisement from tort reformers.

I think the disclosure of ownership should be a permanent part of the "newspaper"'s masthead.

I am trying to think of a "Burning Bridges of the Madison County Record" joke

Chamberpot: I don't think we need to burn anything, although Madison County does have a history of that sort of thing when it comes to newspapers.
How about allowing the Madison County Record to use the bridges of Madison County to get the hell out of our town?

When did "tort reformers" become a dirty word? And if the Record really is taking it on the chin, they must have an iron jaw. Because they're continuing to pummel the Madison County court.
