A NEW LAW BLOG HAS NEWS ABOUT DAVID LAT. . . Journalist and former litigator Peter Lattman is running the new Law Blog at the Wall Street Journal. On his first day, he posted this bit of news:
Queen of the blogosphere Ana Marie Cox is said to be handing over the reins at her spicy political blog Wonkette. David Lat, the federal prosecutor who revealed himself to the New Yorker magazine in November as the author of the popular “Underneath Their Robes” judicial blog, is expected to start blogging for the site. Lockhart Steele, managing editor of Gawker Media, which owns Wonkette, declined to comment. We hear that Lat will have a co-editor.
Did you catch the use of the royal "we"? That's a Wonkette device that's used on a lot of gossip blogs--maybe that's what Law Blog will try to be. Hopefully Lattman won't do too much linking to WSJ articles that are available only to subscribers, which wouldn't endear him to readers.
As for David Lat, I wonder if he's giving up his career as a lawyer to become a fulltime blogger. That would be an interesting switch. And will he really be able to match up to Ana Marie Cox, who got her start as a satirist at the fabulous (though now defunct) Suck? Assuming the rumors are true, it will be an interesting transition to watch.

Interesting developments all around. It would be nice if both Lat and Littman were able to make a living blogging. If they can do it, perhaps there's hope for the rest of us!

Cox got a book deal. Blachman got a book deal. Now maybe Lat will get a book deal. Me? No book deal.

Hell, Rufus, even I got a book deal. I'm a little hurt you forgot. Or doesn't my book about "a particular aspect of civil litigation" count? Maybe you think it's not sexy enough, but just wait until you read it. With the right person as a guide, anyone can get turned on by litigation.

Oddly, subsequent to yesterday's discussion, this post appeared dscussing bloggers and their book deals. Jeremy isn't mentioned. I wonder if our little legal world is so narrow that the MSM blogworld doesn't care?
Too tired to put in the HTML. Sorry.
