FROM THE DON'T-BELIEVE-EVERYTHING-YOU-READ DEPARTMENT . . . The Washington Post is reporting that the Association of Trial Lawyers of America has changed its name to the "American Association for Justice." Based on this report, Overlawyered says "ATLA Name Change Official."
Both of these reports are incorrect. Actually, there's not yet been a vote of the ATLA membership. The Washington Post might have been confused by news of a preliminary vote of an ATLA board. Although the name change might happen at some point, it hasn't happened yet.

Orwellian? I wonder what sort of snark Ted Frank would have posted had ATLA proposed changing its name to something like "Common Good".

Shoot, I was thinking the name change was kind of a bad idea, but if the corporate-tool crowd is so apoplectic about it I may have to rethink my vote.
