I think perhaps people might be taking these shows a bit too far, in terms of what the tell us about the viewers. It isn't like those watching the glamor shows are glamourous, and chances are that most of the Foodies aren't cooking doing much other than watching.

If nothing else, perhaps it expands people's horizons a bit.
