Last month, former U.S. Attorney General Griffin Bell criticized the lawyers and judges of Madison County, Illinois, at a seminar held at the Washington University School of Law. I wrote about the seminar here and here. In Bell's speech, he called on the FBI to investigate the lawyers and judges of Madison County for interfering with the due process rights of corporations.
In the question-and-answer session following his speech, Bell admitted he'd never been to Madison County and did not write the speech he'd just delivered. Now the National Law Journal is on the case. In an article by Andrew Harris, Harris explains why Bell's statistics are unverifiable. Harris also writes, "Deepening the mystery, Bell's secretary said that the former AG is not speaking to the press."
