I'm here in Atlanta with some more random notes. I arrived this evening for some depositions tomorrow and went to dinner with a friend. When I returned to my room, I had a message from one of the defense lawyers. Apparently they're staying in the same hotel. That makes sense, since this is where the depositions are going to happen in the morning.
In his message, the defense lawyer said he had some more documents for me. But now he's not answering his phone. I was going to ask him if he and his partner wanted to meet in the bar. I also wouldn't mind seeing those documents.
Oh, well. I guess I'll have to think fast in the morning. In the meantime, I called home using Skype. It worked great, just like people are always saying. I wish I would have set it up before I went to Prague, where my cellphone wouldn't work.
I also checked in with Professor Althouse's weblog to see if she has any more criticisms about the new Arianna Huffington weblog. She didn't disappoint. Keep it coming, Professor!
In still more surfing, I discovered some weblogging friction of a different sort: Instapundit v. Dave Winer. The friction arose at a weblogging conference during a session about weblogging civility. No joke. You can follow the links to see for yourself. (By the way, doesn't it seem like Winer is smoking in this picture? Yet in his April 26 podcast, which I just happened to be listening to today on the airplane, he said he doesn't smoke. What gives? Is it a pen?)
Tomorrow I'm having breakfast before my depositions with a fellow weblogger. I'd link to him right now so you'd know who he is, but I like to clear things like that ahead of time. (By the way, meeting other webloggers for the first time always makes me a little nervous. I always have to make it clear we're off the record unless we agree otherwise. It's the same rule that's generally followed with friends and family--why not with other webloggers?)
Now I have to finish preparing for my deposition by making photocopies of the documents I'm going to use tomorrow morning as exhibits. There's a copy machine in the lobby.
UPDATE 5/12 8:00 p.m. CST I can now reveal my weblogging breakfast companion: Martin Grace. I'm glad we had the chance to get together.
After breakfast, I did three corporate rep depositions, sat around for awhile talking to the defense lawyers (it was 3 against 1, by the way), then flew back to St. Louis. The plane was full, mostly with businessmen, and I was the only one wearing a suit and tie.
Why are lawyers so stuffy?
He's indoors. If it *IS* a cigarette, I think it's pretty safe to assume it's not lit.

Mark: I was busy today, had the computer turned off, and didn't see your message until I was back in St. Louis. Next time, though.
